Team

Beginnings

Since the club for decades did not compete at the highest level, it is not the best known fact that Krka as a club has a truly long lasting tradition. In 1948 the club, that until the 1990's competed in the lower divisions, was founded in Novo mesto.

Glory Days

The outburst of quality basketball was seen in Novo mesto in 2000, when Krka, led by excellent, back then still youngsters, Simon Petrov and Matjaž Smodiš, has become the first team to remove Union Olimpija from the Slovenian championship throne. A year later, it already competed at the highest European club level – Suproleague, and a year after that in the Euroleague. However, the greatest success for Novo mesto basketball came in 2011, when led by head coach Aleksandar Džikić, Krka climbed on top of EuroChallenge cup and became the champion of this European club competition. The same season Krka also reached the ABA League Final Four tournament. Over the past six years, it has become the champion of Slovenia for five times and is currently the undisputed ruler of Slovenian club basketball. In 2008/2009 the clubstarted to climb back toward the international scene and returned to the ABA League but the final breakthrough came in 2010, when the senior team won the Slovenian championship again, qalified for the ABA League and made some significant achievements both in regional competition, where they reached the semi-finals in 2010/11 season and in European EuroChallenge competition, where they claimed the champion title the same season.
